What is it?

The aim of HoneyBees is to create a fun place where children can experience learning in many ways whilst feeling valued in a friendly environment complimentary to home.

There is a careful blend of activities, which will interest and excite the children, giving them a variety of learning skills. An inquiring rather than rigid approach to learning is encouraged as this is most likely to enable them to adjust to change and new ideas in the future.

The activities cover a wide range of basic learning skills allowing social interaction, role-play, co-operation with others, recognition of colours, shapes, numbers and letters, enjoyment of books and listening and communication skills. We also encourage the importance of respect, independence and tolerance towards others and oneself.

HoneyBees Playgroup has a purpose built room within the Pavilion, and have the use of the hall and kitchen. We also use the playground and have our own small fenced off garden for planting of vegetables and herbs during the summer months.

Where is it?

The sessions are held at the sports pavilion at the King George V playing fields in Plumpton Green.

When is it?

Sessions are held on Tuesdays - Fridays from 9.30am to 12noon. We also offer a Lunch Club on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays which is from 12noon till 1pm. Furthermore, we currently offer Early Bird sessions on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9am till 9.30am.

During the spring and summer terms we run a session on Mondays from 9.30am till 1pm. This session is only for the children starting school in the autumn. The aim of this session is to prepare the children for school and make the whole transition easier. The children will also be required to have a PE kit at the playgroup as they will practice getting changed unassisted. We work closely with Plumpton Primary School during these sessions and include as many visits to the school as possible. During these visits the children become familiar with the school surroundings and the teachers.

How much does it cost?

Each 2.5 hour session costs £8. Children receive funding from the government for 5 sessions per week beginning the term after their 3rd birthday. Lunch hour sessions cost £3.60. Early bird sessions cost £2.

Who can go?

HoneyBees is for children from 2½ till they start school.

How is it run?

HoneyBees is managed by a Parent Committee, which holds annual AGM meetings to which all parents are invited. Parents are encouraged to either become committee members or to support the committee in fund raising. The committee are also available to talk to if parents have any feedback or concerns.

The day to day activities at Honeybees are provided by the staff. However, in order to maintain adult/child ratios we do operate a rota system where a parent is required to be on duty each day. Before the start of each term a rota is issued with the dates each parent is required to do a duty, about 2 sessions a term. You are welcome to bring any younger siblings with you.

What do I do now?

The enrolment procedure at HoneyBees is very simple. We would first suggest that you and your child visit us to enable you to familiarise yourselves with both the staff and the facilities. We would then ask you to complete an enrolment form and read the enrolment booklet.
